What If?

What if . . .

. . . I meditated as often as I checked my email?

. . . I talked with God as regularly as I posted a new Facebook status?

. . . My fingers longed to touch prayer beads instead of an iPhone?

. . . There was space in my heart, my soul, my spirit, that I did not try to fill?

It is in vain that you rise up early

and go late to rest,

eating the bread of anxious toil;

for [God] gives sleep to [the] beloved.

Psalm 127:2, NRSV

And so I post this . . . image, thoughts, and confession . . . on my blog, on Facebook, on Twitter. How strange. (Even crazy?)  God, help me disconnect … and reconnect with you. Amen.

  1. My own personal “what if” recently was, “What if I spent as much time focusing on my spiritual life as I did focusing on sudoku?” Thanks for the reflections…

  2. I’ve been feeling so “crowded out” lately … Even the good stuff — sudoku!! — can take away from the necessary …

    Thanks for posting!

  3. Just found your blog tonight through The Upper Room I receive in my inbox. I work night shift, so I am glad to receive it in the wee hours of the morning, and so grateful to find your gentle words which point me to Jesus again. Thank you!

  4. Dear Beth,I am not computer literate so please forgive how this turns out. I am loving your retreat and also have the book to follow with.I also love and respect the comments that are posted.I find them to be very uplifting and can also identify with some.I will be praying for those who are also on this retreat. This was just what I needed and was looking for. I just wanted to ask you if you give private retreats at any time and is there any way one can contact you personally?If you do not give private retreats do you give group ones and where and when. Thank You so very much for reading this and your beautiful words of encouragement to me and all who share in your ministry. GOD BLESS and Happy Advent! Juliana.
