Flowers in the Graveyard

I went to the graveyard
At St. Cuthbert’s Church today.
Thousands of years of history
In this quiet place.

Above the church yard stands Edinburgh Castle
Perched high upon the rocks.

Stones of a different kind mark the
Grounds of this holy space.

The late afternoon sun
Illuminates purple wildflowers
Growing by a fallen marker.

You are not forgotten, they seem to say.
Beauty stands beside you, watches over you.
Beauty is witness to the Love
From which you will never be separated.

I went to the graveyard
At St. Cuthbert’s Church today.
There I saw beauty.
There I saw love.
